MSN carried this week an interview of the newly elected member of the Philippine Senate, Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. His responses to the questions asked of him show that his memory is obviously terribly bad or else he has a severely deformed conscience. He claims that his family did not steal a peso from the Philippine treasury; that there were no human rights abuses during the martial law times except perhaps for isolated incidents of a policeman shooting a civilian. Marcos is now 50 years old and in 1980, some 7 years after his father imposed martial law upon our hapless country, he was 20 years old, old enough to have known of how our country was being run. Unless he refused then to hear about these things, as he continues to this day to refuse to acknowledge that “bad things” happened during the presidency of Marcos, Sr.
