Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday afternoon distributed the city government?s financial assistance amounting to P279,000 to victims of different fire incidents that hit some parts of the city in the previous months.
A total of 87 individuals received the cash assistance. Of the total, 27 whose properties were totally destroyed by fire received P5,000 each for a total of P135,000, while 31 others whose properties were partially damaged by fire received P3,000 each for a total of P93,000.
At least five house-sharers also received P3,000 each for a total of P15,000, while 24 boarders got P1,500 each for a total of P36,000.
Representing the mayor during the distribution of the financial aid at the Red Cross training center were City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo, his assistant Evelyn M. Las Marias and staff and representatives from the City Treasurer?s Office together with other city officials.
It can be recalled, a fire broke out last Feb. 28 in Baliwasan Grande where 4 individuals were affected. On Feb. 19 and 22, fire incidents occurred at Don Alfaro St., Tetuan and Don Alfaro Dr., Tetutan, respectively with five victims.
In March, observed as Fire Prevention Month nationwide, four fire incidents occurred: March 6 in Mampang with 13 victims; March 11 also in Mampang with one victim; March 16 also at Baliwasan Grande with 10 victims, and; March 18 at Zone 2 (Purok Orchid/Sucabon) with 54 victims.
The city government under Lobregat?s administration has appropriated millions of pesos for relief goods and cash assistance to victims of fire and other calamities in the city.
