Following the declaration of a dengue fever outbreak in Zamboanga, the City Health Office has spearheaded series of conferences to map out plans for the launching of curative and preventive measures in a bid to curb cases of the mosquito-borne disease.
On Thursday, August 26, Agbulos met with doctors, health workers and health practitioners to devise curative approaches using major health centers in the City to treat patients with dengue.
The meeting resulted to the creation of the City Dengue Management Team headed by Dr. Marie Arciaga with Dr. Junie Rivera and Dr. Dalisay as members-which will answer referrals for hard-to-manage dengue cases that require intensive handling and treatment.
With the mounting number of dengue cases specially in the farflung barangays, the services of medical practitioners and health volunteers in the villages are badly needed, according to Agbulos.
Relatively, yesterday morning, Dr. Agbulos met with barangay officials to map out the plans for the City-wide clean up drive on September 2. The move forms part of the preventive approach to search and destroy breeding sites of mosquito larvae.
The mentioned curative and preventive approaches are intended to be a two-way strategy to address the alarming cases of dengue in the different areas in the city where Barangay Tumaga records the highest number of instances with 110.
Last Tuesday, Mayor Lobregat together with Dr. Agbulos declared a dengue outbreak in the city, as cases soared to 1,755 with 20 fatalities from January to August 21.
Mayor Lobregat appealed to the constituents anew to be responsive and participative in the campaign to prevent dengue cases through intensified cleanliness drives.
“Everyone must take part. The City Government cannot address this problem alone. Everyone must clean his or her surroundings”, the Mayor explained.
