For showing exemplary performance as city and regional president, District 2 Councilor Lilia Nuño has been elected national Vice President for Mindanao of the National Rural Improvement Club (RIC).
The lady lawmaker from Taluksangay was elected vice president of the RIC by almost all the delegates during the congress of the RIC and Home Economics and Extension Association of the Philippines (HEEAP) last August 23 to 26 at the La Salette University in Santiago, Isabela.
“This is a manifestation of confidence and I am thankful for this. This
will drive me more to work harder for the welfare of the women in
Zamboanga, Region 9 and in the entire Mindanao,” Nuño remarked.
RIC is a civic, non-sectarian, non-political and non-profit and a women
organization under the guidance of the Department of Agriculture aimed
at helping in the community development in the process of nation
building.
RIC is tasked to promote mutual cooperation, encourage activities for
the welfare of the family and community, promote unity, peace, love and
friendship among women, implement rural development programs and
projects of the government specially that of the DA, act as extension
arm of the DA in communicating and implementing farm HOME resource
management and coordinate and establish linkages with other programs and
projects relevant to the upliftment of the rural families.
Nuño, the former Charity Sweepstake Office chief turned councilor, led
the RIC in Zamboanga with exemplary leadership, steering the
organization into actively playing vital role in rural development
undertakings.
Because of this, the No. 1 second termer lady councilor was elected regional president of RIC for Region 9 in 2009.
“I am just lucky to have cooperative and dedicated members and officers
that is why the RIC is living up to its mandate,” said Nuño, who chairs
the City Council’s Committees on Health and Sanitation, Women, Children
and Family welfare.
Nuño said RIC during its congress lined up programs for implementation in the coming days.
