The House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization will start reviewing the performance of all government owned and controlled corporations or GOCCs by next week.
This after Congressman Erbie A. Fabian, chairman of the committee, formally convened it last Wednesday to adopt its rules and procedures to govern the direction of the committee’s thrusts.
Fabian set the tone and laid the ground rules adopted by the body in fulfilling its role of providing an avenue to review these companies’ performances.
GOCCs have been in the spotlight lately after expose’ were made concerning grave abuses allegedly by their top executives. These include huge cash advances, astronomical pays and bonuses in spite of the government’s ballooning deficit.
Fabian was appointed chairman of that important House committee after a successful stint during the 14th congress where he earned accolades for steering the House Committee on Government Reorganization to exemplary record.
The committee plans to go full steam into its inquiries next week inviting prominent GOCCs to its September 8 session.
Fabian also emphasized that the committee hearings will also serve as avenues for people to air their grievances, displeasures and complaints on how these government agencies conduct their daily transactions with its clientele.
He invited the public to participate actively by attending the hearings to help legislators determine how to approach these problems.
The Congressman stressed it will also help in determining whether some of these companies have become irrelevant in the course of time and need to be abolished.
