A policeman and a civilian were shot and wounded by one of two holduppers outside a hospital along Veterans Avenue extension last Thursday night.
Wounded were PO1 Erick Magoncia of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and Rolando Heredero, 54, married.
Magoncia was shot in the right thigh while Heredero sustained a bullet wound in the chest.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that Heredero was driving a motorcycle with his wife Maria Anna as backrider on their way to the Western Mindanao Medical Center to bring food to a relative patient. While they were approaching the driveway going to the hospital parking lot around 8 p.m., two men aboard a motorcycle blocked their path. The backrider announced to the couple a holdup at gunpoint.
The gunman grabbed Anna’s bag prompting her husband to fight back, but the gunman shot Rolando hitting in the left portion of his chest.
The holduppers then sped towards Veterans Avenue extension. Magoncia, who was in the area, chased the holduppers. Few meters away, the holduppers suddenly stopped and the backrider opened fire on Magoncia hitting him in the right thigh.
The holduppers left the place carrying the bag of Heredero’s wife.
Heredero and Magoncia were taken to WMMC for treatment.
Mrs. Heredero told the police that her bag contained P1,400, assorted jewelry pieces and other valuables.
De Ocampo said his men were still conducting follow-up operations for the arrest of the holduppers.
