A brother of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) spokesman Eid Kabalu was shot dead by an unidentified gunman Friday evening in Barangay Mother Bagua in Cotabato City, authorities said.

Initial police investigation showed that the victim, Nasser Kabalu, was walking in the village at around 9:30 p.m. when he was approached from behind by the .45-caliber wielding gunman and opened fire at him.

The victim died instantaneously due to the bullet that entered his back and exited just below his armpit.

Police probers are yet to establish the motive behind the killing.

Speaking on behalf of the Kabalu clan, Eid Kabalu said they are also facing a “blank wall” as to the cause of the killing.

The MILF recently placed the erstwhile rebel group spokesman on floating status following changes within its organizational setup.

Kabalu was replaced by Von Al Haq as MILF spokesperson.
