Men of the City Police Office’s Criminal Investigation and Detective Unit yesterday recovered a stolen cellular phone displayed for sale in one of the illegal cell phone stands downtown yesterday afternoon.
This developed after a female college student appeared at the central police station and sought assistance for the recovery of her Nokia cell phone which was stolen and put on sale in one of the illegal cell phone stands downtown.
The student told the police she discovered her cell phone missing from her shoulder bag the other day while she was walking along a downtown street. She filed a formal complaint with the police for the possible recovery of her missing phone.
Yesterday, she spotted her cell phone in an illegal cell phone stand.
She immediately recognized her cell phone because of the graphics in the screen.
Policemen along with the complainant rushed to the place and recovered her cell phone. The seller and owner of the stand was invited to the police station for questioning.
The recovery of the student’s cell phone in one of the illegal cellphone stands downtown yesterday was not the first time. There had been several similar cases in the past wherein complainants appeared at the police station to seek assistance for the recovery of their stolen phones on sale at the different illegal cell phone stands.
Police said that the illegal phone sellers found selling stolen phones can be charged with violation of the anti-fencing law and a regulation adopted by the National Telecommunication Commission pertaining to cellular phones.
