Mayor Celso Lobregat has instructed the City Social Welfare and Development Office under Francisco Barredo to provide all the necessary assistance to the victims of the fire incident that hit Lower Calarian at the crack of dawn Sunday.
Early morning yesterday, the mayor together with Barredo, personally inspected the fire site and the victims who perished in the unfortunate incident. He gave out cash assistance and ordered the provision of government trucks for use in the interment of the victims.
Reports indicate that a fire of still unknown origin razed to the ground the Vasquez residence in Lower Calarian, barely some 100 meters away from the Petron gasoline depot in the seaside area around 2:30 in the morning (Sunday) September 5. Four people—composed of the Vasquez family were trapped and charred to death, they included Saddan Ladja, her daughter Rosalin Vasquez and grandchildren Jian Wayne Carlo Vasquez and Junadil Vasquez.
Rosalin’s husband, Norwin, who was not at home at the time of the incident, was terribly disturbed by the unfortunate incident that befell on his family. He later committed suicide and died at the barangay’s mosque.
Another Vasquez child, a 13-year old boy, survived the incident as he was at the internet café at the time of the incident.
Barredo said the city government will also provide food and relief assistance to the victim’s next of kin.
Other forms of assistance will also be recommended, according to Barredo.
Meanwhile, the timely arrival of the fire fighters and immediate response prevented the spread of the conflagration to the neighboring houses and the gasoline depot.
