A family of five was killed in a fire that broke out at Stanvac, Lower Calarian at dawn last Sunday.
A report from the Zamboanga City Central Fire Station identified the fatalities as Rosaline Vasquez y Laja, 32, her children Jian, 2, and Jumadil, 1, and Sadan Mucarani Laja, 50 (Rosaline’s mother).
The report said that after the fire, Rosaline’s husband Norwin Vasquez was also found dead with a bullet wound in the body.
Residents of Stanvac woke up after they noticed the house of the Vasquez family on fire. The occupants failed to save themselves as they were all sleeping when the blaze broke out.
Firefighters managed to put the fire under control and later recovered the bodies of Rosaline, Jian, Jumadil and Sadan from the fire debris. During clearing operation, authorities found the body of Norwin with a gunshot wound.
Fire investigators said that Norwin died of gunshot wound and not by burns but the police and fire investigators were clueless on who shot him.
Investigation disclosed that Norwin had been threatening to burn their house whenever they were having husband-wife spat.
Aside from the Vasquez’ house, there was one house that was partially destroyed.
