CAN A DEAD SINNER STILL BE SAVED AFTER HIS DEATH? What is the truth---when a person dies, there is nothing more that could be done to save him from eternal damnation, or he could still be saved, through the prayers offered for his soul by those who are still living?
The Holy Bible seems to have at least two conflicting teachings on this---the first one says after death, there is nothing more that can save a sinner, but the second one says he could still be saved through the preaching of the Word to him.
The first teaching comes from Ecclesiastes 9:6 which says: “…but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. Indeed their love, their hate and their zeal have already perished, and they will no longer have a share in all that is done under the sun…”
The second teaching comes from 1 Peter 4:6, which says: “…For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God…”

“THE TOUNGE IS A FIRE”---THE BIBLE: I am willing to bet my last centavo that Assistant Secretary Mai Mislang of the Presidential Communications Office for Strategic Planning is one who is not reading the Bible, and this is clearly shown by her Tweeter remark “the wine sucks”, in reference to the wine served by the Vietnamese government to President Aquino late Tuesday.
If she is a Bible reader, she will have known what the Word says about the tongue: “…the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things… the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue… sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell…” (James 3:5-6, the Holy Bible).
When I was younger, I used to see at the back of the passenger seats of every Pantranco bus that brought me to Manila from Tarlac the following admonition, which Mislang would do well to remember, especially now that she holds a very sensitive position in the Aquino government: “less talk, more precaution…”

WORDS AND NUMBERS: Here is an Internet item forwarded to me by Rolando Marasigan, my fellow Ilustre from the Rotary Club of Intramuros, District 3810, which explains the significance of numbers in words: the most selfish one letter word, “I”; the most satisfying two letter word, “we”; the most poisonous three letter word, “ego”.
The most used four letter word, “love”; the most pleasing five letter word, “smile”; the fastest spreading six letter word, “rumour”; the hardest working seven letter word, “success”; the most enviable eight letter word, “jealousy”; the most powerful nine letter word, “knowledge”; and the most essential ten letter word, “confidence”.
