Oscar nominations!
This year the Oscar
nominations will be great! Speculation has risen as to which film will
be in the limelight and up for winner. The category of best film has
expanded from having five titles to ten- aimed to ensure that more
commercial movies which are usually shut out of the way can have a
chance too. 2011?s ceremony saw Sci-Fi film Avatar piped at the post
(modestly) by the Iraq drama- The Hurst Locker. The ceremony is due to
be held on 27th February.
Here are a few films listed and predicted to be in the firing line.
- BLACK SWAN
Director- Darren Aronofsky’s word here definitely requires some recognition.
Best Actress – Natalie Portman could be in with a chance as well as Barbara Hershey for their Oscar-rewarding work on this film.
- THE FIGHTER
Boxer films do well in the Oscar nominations. Rocky, ranging Bull and
Million Dollar Baby are just a few that have made it to success.
Best Actor- Wahlberg’s lead performance might not get him to the top,
but the film has a decent shot. Christian Bale may also be a
nomination.
- INCEPTION
Best Director – Christopher Nola’s film was smash hit and a
box-office top when it came out in July. The film should definitely be
recognized in the technical categories.
- THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
A film that deals with current issues in the US, and wisely does. The
topic of same-sex marriage are hot topics but dealt with the issues
with style.
Best Actress/Actor – Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo are all in the running.
Director- Cholodenko may also get nominated for this hit film.
- THE KINGS SPEECH
This movie is about the British Monarchy. Colin Forht might scrape out a nomination for best actor Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham might receive Oscar nominations for this film too- keep your fingers crossed!
- 127 HOURS
Well, Slumdog Millionaire did very well last year, but can Danny Boyle’s follow up do any good?
Best Actor- James Franco might get nominated for best actor for his skills in this film.
- THE SOCIAL NETWORK
This was the most talked about film of the year! Considered one of the best contenders for the Oscars 2011. Best director should go to Fincher, while Aaron Sorkin will definitely be up for adapted screenplay.
Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and a certain Justin Timberlake may also be in the running in one or more acting categories.
- TOY STORY 3
This is definitely a front runner! There has not been an animation film that has one best picture…this could be a first!
Other films may be True Grit and Winter’s Bone, according to the BBC.
