DAVAO CITY — High demand for printing knowledge has been noted in Mindanao which brought organizers of the Manufacturing Technology Davao 2011 to partner with the printing sector slated on May 26-28 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas convention hall here.
Patrick-Lawrence Tan, chief executive officer of Global-link MP Events International Inc., said they saw the need to bring to Davao the latest trend, technology and equipment in the printing business.
In a press conference on Monday, he said the three-day expo will be held with local partner, the Printing Industry Association of Davao, Inc. (PIADI). The event is organized with the Philippine Center for Print Excellence (PCPE) and the Philippine Printing Technical Foundation Inc. (PPTF). It is also being supported by the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Aside from the display of top of the line equipment, the expo will also have a technical seminar for printers to include among others the talk of Eddie Cobankiat, general manager of Hilcor Manufacturing Corporation on the topic "How Rubber Rollers Can Affect Your Profitability."
Other speakers are Arci S. Calamanan, product specialist, Pre-press Consumables of Heidelberg Philippines, Inc. on "Proper Handling of Thermal Plates-Excellence on CTP and Processor"; Adrian Litorijua, press application specialist, Heidelberg Philippines, Inc. on "Fault and Remedy for Press"; Susan E. Chan and Karen Liew of Imperial & Ideal Mktg. & Mfg. Corp. on "Meeting the Standards"; Robert Tuason, commercial segment business development director of Graphic Communications of Kodak Phils. on "Total Pre-Press Solutions"; and Irene V. Bulonon, applications manager, SE Asia-Xrite Asia Pacific Limited on "Best Practices for Better Color".
The seminar, Tan said, would provide the businesses here inputs on efficient production techniques and standards and enhance overall efficiency and productivity in order to compete globally through technology and knowledge sharing. He said also on display are printing equipment that would use environment friendly materials citing for instance the use of cloth instead of plastic as the latest materials used for indoor display instead of tarpaulin.
"We wanted people in the provinces to know this because new trends like this that also addresses environmental concerns must be given wider exposure," he said.
This year's expo, Tan said, will have 100 exhibitors representing products and services from 24 countries. The expo is also expected to attract various leading manufacturers, plant production managers, purchasing officers, suppliers and retailers from all inter-related industries.
Tan said visitors can discover the latest energy saving technologies used in manufacturing and production as well as form new business partnerships. He said they are optimistic of this year's exposition even as they anticipated to surpass its past achievements. The 2010 expo had some 4,400 visitors and buyers with 67 companies that participated. It reported on-site sales of over P22.9 million. He said their target for this year for on-site sales is at P30 million.
The Expo has three specialized sub-shows namely, T.O.P.S. Davao -- Total Office Products Show, WOODMACH DAVAO – Woodworking & Furniture Making Technology, and the DAVAO FOOD EXPO -- Food & Food Processing and Packaging Technology. (PNA)
