Lamitan City, Basilan Province — In observance of the nutrition month celebration, 32nd Infantry (DAREDEVIL) Battalion (32IB), 1ID, PA in cooperation with the Local Government Units LGUs), Local Government Agencies (LGAs), and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) initiated series of activities with a theme " Isulong ang Breastfeeding – Tama, Sapat, At Eksklusibo" from 26 July 2011 to 28 July 2011 at the different schools in Lamitan City, Basilan Province.

The activities were made possible through the collaboration of efforts between 32IB, Office of the Vice Governor – Basilan, Basilan Ilocano Saranay Association, Rotary Club of Basilan, Sultan Unding Alliance Academy, Hardam Furigay Colleges Foundation Inc., Lamitan City Social Welfare and Development, and Lamitan Schools Division in order to support to the different schools of Lamitan City.

The highlights of the activities were feeding program and distribution of toothbrushes and toothpaste aside from the booth contest of fruits and vegetables, poster making contest, nutrition month slogan contest, cooking contest, coronation of Mr and Ms Nutrition 2011, quiz bee, and lectures for the awareness regarding proper nutrition.

The feeding program gathered a total of eight hundred twenty nine (829) beneficiaries from the students and the distribution of toothbrushes and toothpastes gathered a total of one thousand two hundred twenty four (1,224) beneficiaries from the students of Ubit Elementary School, Ubit National High School, Sultan Unding Alliance Academy, and Colonia Central Elementary School.

LTC ROSALIO G POMPA, Commanding Officer of 32IB expressed his deepest gratitude to all the stakeholders who participated and made the activity successful. Further, he expressed that 32IB engages on this kind of activities being part of its thrust of assisting the government programs for the development of the students of elementary and high school in the area.

On the other hand, other stakeholders expressed their warmest appreciation to 32IB for facilitating this kind of activities. Moreover, they expressed that this effort is significant as it pave way for the establishment of peace and development in the City of Lamitan.
