Manila-In a joint humanitarian project launched by non-government organization on Philippine education welfare Synergeia together with the Naval Reserve Command and the Fleet Marine Ready Force of the Philippine Navy, the “Bikes for the Philippines Project” was launched recently (Jan 13,2012)during a simple turn-over ceremony on board the Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP)Laguna (LT501) which was back then docked at the Philippine Navy headquarters in Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The bicycles numbering 400 came from the United States and was shipped by the Navy to Baclayon, Bohol and eventually donated to deserving beneficiary students who live at least 3 kilometers from their school. The bikes come along with training by project volunteers as well as helmets and shoes.
The initial 400 bikes represent the first batch of subsequent bikes from the US and will be soon followed by other bikes to be shipped by the Navy under an institutional partnership agreement between the Philippine Navy and Synergeia.
The bike donation from the US was facilitated by Project Manager Mr. Joel Uichico through the assistance of Synergiea President Ms. Nene Guevarra in coordination with the Philippine Navy. Another set of 500 bicycles is expected to arrive in the Philippines and will be shipped by the Navy to a still undetermined destination within the country.
The shipment of bicycles was jibed with ongoing Navy rehabilitation operations for the victims of Sendong in Northern Mindanao. All other subsequent shipment by the Navy will likewise be shipped on jibe basis to ensure efficiency of operational movements.
