MANILA Globe Telecom lauds government in its drive to increase the use of text messaging in its drive to speed-up the dissemination of information to the general public.
At the same time, the company reiterated its commitment to continually work with various government agencies to use information and communication technologies (ICT) to expedite the delivery of public service.
The use of telecommunication services, particularly text messaging, is a cost-effective, efficient and effective way to easily pass on vital information to local government officials, disaster and relief workers, police and military personnel as well as media so that everyone can respond faster given any situation. We at Globe Telecom are committed to helping the government do just that, Froilan Castelo, Globe Corporate and Legal Services Group head said.
With over 85-million mobile phone subscribers and a mobile phone penetration rate of over 93 percent, the mobile phone is the most pervasive form of direct communication today. Residents even in remote areas of the country are able to stay in touch via their cellphones.
The Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the official information arm of the government, will use its Text Blast service to send out advisories, news and warnings to national and local government officials, police and military personnel, barangay officials and media nationwide in a much faster manner. Through its partnership with Globe Telecom, the PIA will use the companys TxtConnect service.
TxtConnect, offered via Globe Business, the unit within Globe that provides corporations as well as small-and-medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) with information and communication technology (ICT) services that match a companys needs for cost efficiency, security, mobility, IT integration and reliable connectivity.
TxtConnect enables companies, schools and other organizations to transmit high volume of text messages to a pre-registered group of recipients, up to a thousand mobile users, in one sending. It is better than doing individual text messaging as it is more efficient and offers reduced SMS rates.
As a web-based service, TxtConnect can be accessed anywhere at anytime and it is easy to manage, as it allows users to view transactions and summary reports online to know message recipients.
Besides PIA, Globe also has partnerships with other government agencies and non-government organizations, using ICT services for a variety of initiatives, such as the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, PAG-ASA as well as the Department of Social Welfare and Development.(PNA)
