MANILA The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Tuesday that the filing of certificates of candidacy for the May 2013 elections would be from October 1 to 5 of this year.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes made the announcement during a hearing made by the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.
The date is almost a full two months earlier than the usual November 30 start of filing of candidacies in past elections.
Brillantes said the early date of filing would give the Comelec ample time to resolve electoral cases that include disqualification cases, substitution of candidates and others before the final printing of ballots.
Meanwhile, Party-list groups have until March 31 of this year to file for accreditation with the Comelec and until May 31 to file their manifestation of intent to participate in the elections.
The next elections would be held on May 13, 2013. (PNA)
