MANILA Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday urged the chosen Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS) of the Philippines to always lead in promoting nationalism.
Binay, the President of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, made the statement, while speaking at the awarding ceremonies of the TOBS, which was held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
I want you to help this society find its way to a better future. I want you to lead, share with everyone your wisdom and courage to bring change through your good work big or small that will inspire our younger members to discover and own the big idea of patriotism, and the even bigger idea of nationalism, said Binay.
You, and the spreading of good acts all around, are sweetest fruits of Scoutings labor, he added.
The Vice President said wisdom, uprightness, and noble human behavior are the traits that every Filipino should have, especially during times of issues plaguing the nation.
Now, in these times of stress natural as well as man-made we are called upon to be all the outstanding Scouts that we are. And I call on the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines to lead this Movement in lending the helping hand, he stressed.
And for those for whom not only life has been battered in the storm, but the spirit, I want you to help in the rebuilding of hope, he added.
As President of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, I can only urge you to stay within that state of preparedness armed with knowledge as well as courage, he further stated.
The Search for the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines is a yearly awarding ceremony, which aims to give due recognition to the most outstanding Scouts, possessing qualities of role models to the youth.
The search is open to Boy Scouts who are Filipino citizens and must be in his third year or fourth year in high school.
The winners are chosen from the 23 finalists representing the 10 Scouting Regions in the country and were selected from among the hundreds of candidates from 117 local councils nationwide.
Winners of the search are presented the TOBS medal, cash, and scholarship during the national awarding ceremonies.
This year, the awardees include: Francis Eirick A. Tamayo of Dagupan City; David Leonard Guzman, Tuguegarao City; John Dennhel Cruz and Adrian Paul San Andres, Bulacan; Hanns Christian Chua, Manila; John Carlo Prieto, Marinduque; Elmer Delen, Batangas City; Kleio Alfric Tobias, Iloilo; Hans Juris Artillero, Capiz; and Justin Mikhael Hermosisima.
